SW6 – Google EIE data to accelerate climate action in cities

Local authorities and stakeholders rely more and more on data-driven applications and clean technologies in the development of innovative environmental and climate initiatives in cities. This session aims to open the debate on the need for cities to invest in integrated environmental and climate action under data-driven approaches and technological developments that put citizens in the centre of the solutions. Different tools, including Google Environmental Insights Explorer, could support cities to accelerate their climate action planning processes, especially for emissions intensive sectors such as on road transport and buildings. 

The Environmental Insights Explorer (EIE) empowers thousands of cities and regions with actionable data and insights to reduce global emissions. Using exclusive data sources and modelling capabilities, EIE helps cities and regions measure emission sources, run analyses, and identify strategies to reduce emissions – creating a foundation for effective action.

ICLEI and Google will take the opportunity to present the results of different projects resulting from a long term collaboration promoting data and technology-driven projects in cities with focus on transport data for climate action and sustainability mobility planning.
