The tour starts with a presentation of Malmö’s so called “summer streets”. Over the last few summers, four of Malmö’s central streets have been transformed. The car traffic has been limited, which has made room for another usage of the street scape. People, greenery, seating, restaurants and cafés are allowed to replace the space that cars and parking usually occupy.
The tour continues with the discovery of Malmö’s themed playgrounds and outdoor gyms. Malmö has been developing themed playgrounds for the last 20 years creating visitor destinations and unique local experiences throughout the city. Play and active space is not just limited to children, and activity spaces and outdoor gyms are increasingly popular with all ages in the city. You will explore about participative processes, the challenges and opportunities of the concept.
The tour ends with a presentation of tree plantings in the Möllevången area. Here, 150 new park and street trees have been planted. Learn about how street trees can contribute to climate adaption, biodiversity and other ecosystem services and at the same time create a safer street environment.
