Putting people at the heart of local sustainable development: The Malmö Commitment

Putting people at the heart of local sustainable development: The Malmö Commitment

How can cities and communities be part of the solution to today’s challenges, encouraging sustainable approaches, innovation, adaptability, participation, and inclusiveness? This is what the climate emergency is demanding from governments and this session will explore the process needed for ensuring such a green, just and fair transition. Examples of rights-based approaches and inclusion of all community members in policy processes will be explored, looking at cities also as destinations of internal migration. The Malmö Commitment has been crafted around this vision and gathers local and regional governments that commit to this urban transformation following a four-step process: identify the challenges; monitor social equity indicators; report the progress and enhance the effort taken through neighboring communities.
