All hands on deck: Building a sustainable urban world for all

This interactive session will facilitate multi-stakeholder dialogues, encouraging participants to integrate different points of view on effective multi-level action for sustainable development. The aim of these dialogues is breaking the mental barriers of what is possible or not in terms of sustainable local development and underlining the necessity to shape policies that take into account the inputs of various actors.

Participants will join group discussions with representatives of different sectors and organization types, such as local and regional governments, national governments, private sector, civil society, research and academia, and other international organizations.

In-person participants will engage in two rounds of roundtable discussions on making sustainability a reality through multi-level collaboration while ensuring respect to equitable and people-centered communities.

Virtual participants will be able to watch the broadcasted plenary and have group discussions in breakout rooms on Zoom.

10:50-11:25 CEST | Round 1: Dialogue with local leaders

The first round of discussions will focus on horizontal collaboration among local and regional governments (city-to-city, city-to-region), as well as collaborations with local stakeholders and community partners, towards an equitable and inclusive implementation of sustainable local development.

Questions:
What needs to change in our way of cooperating to move from target setting and hard commitments to implemented action and transformative change? And how can this be done in a fair and accessible way?

11:25-12:05 CEST | Round 2: Dialogue with local leaders

The second round will focus on the vertical collaboration between local and regional governments and higher levels of government (national government and intergovernmental bodies) for tangible sustainable local development. It will also address the question of how various levels of government can best collaborate in policy development and design, prioritization of resource allocation, and understanding which issues need to be addressed by which levels, and to what extent.

Questions:
What needs to be done to further strengthen multi-actor collaboration and action in regards to promoting sustainable local development and in tackling the interconnected climate and nature crisis? And how can this be done in a fair and accessible way?
