  • When and where is the ICLEI World Congress 2021 - 2022 taking place?

    On 13-15 April 2021, we connected virtually for high-level discussions on how local and regional governments can continue to advance on sustainable development together with ICLEI.     Throughout the rest of 2021, we continue exploring critical topics in sustainable urban development in our Webinar Series: The Road to Malmö, building our momentum to 2022. We will then gather in person in Malmö, Sweden, for the Malmö Summit, on 11-13 May 2022 to exchange with and inspire one another on the best practices in local sustainable development, and learn firsthand from the City of Malmö’s wealth of sustainability initiatives.

  • Who is invited to the ICLEI World Congress 2021 - 2022?

    Everyone is invited!

    At the ICLEI World Congress 2021 – 2022 we welcome: local and regional leaders and department level municipal staff that are part of the ICLEI Network, local and regional government associations, national government and intergovernmental representatives, UN and other international agencies and financial institutions, academic and research institutions, global and specialized media, civil society representatives, the private sector, as well as students.

  • Is there a special program for local and regional government officials?

    Yes, throughout the congress, there will be dedicated sessions geared towards local and regional government representatives. These high-level sessions will allow Mayors, Governors, Councillors, CEOs and top representatives of organizations to discuss key topics of urban sustainability.

  • Are there opportunities to become a Sponsor or Exhibitor?

  • How can media representatives participate in the event?

  • Is there a participation fee to join the Road to Malmö Webinar Series?

    No, the Road to Malmö Webinar Series is free of charge. To attend, you would only need to register for a respective webinar. Information on the past and upcoming webinars as well as registration details are available here.

  • When does the registration for the Malmö Summit open? How can I register?

    Registration for the ICLEI World Congress 2021 – 2022: The Malmö Summit is open! We invite you to subscribe to our newsletter in order to ensure you have the latest updates.

  • Is there a participation fee to attend the Malmö Summit?

    Yes, there is. Registration fees are dependent on the participant’s affiliation and are designed so that all participants can attend.  For further information please visit our registration page.

  • What is included in the registration fee?

    In-person: 

    • Admission to the Congress with access to the venue on 11-13 May 2022
    • Access to all high-level sessions and workshop sessions (except invitation only and closed events)

  • What is your cancellation policy?

    As per our Terms and Conditions, any  request  for cancellation,  substitution,  and  reimbursement  of registration fees  must  be sent to  the following  e-mail  address:  ICLEI2022@meetx.se.

    Cancellation  is  possible until  16  February  2022,  and  participants  will  be refunded  the congress  fee  minus  an  administrative  cost  of SEK  500  (ca.  50  EUR).

    No  refunds  will  be made for cancellations  received  after  16  February  2022.

  • What are your COVID-19 Guidelines?

    ICLEI and the City of Malmö are committed to providing a safe and healthy environment for all persons attending the ICLEI World Congress 2021-2022: The Malmö Summit. We are working closely with our event partners to make sure that high hygiene and cleanliness standards are ensured throughout the event. Please note that given the evolving nature of the COVID-19 pandemic and continuously changing local and international rules and regulations, these guidelines and envisaged preventive measures will be subject to regular updates.

Planning your trip to Malmö

  • At which venue will the Malmö Summit take place?

    Located in the city center, Clarion Hotel Malmö Live is a new landmark in the skyline of the City of Malmö. Conveniently situated next to Malmö central station – where a train can take you to Copenhagen Airport in 17 minutes. The four-story building is within walking distance of many great restaurants, sights and activities.

  • What official documents do I need to take with me?

    Before making any travel arrangements, please ensure that you have an up-to-date passport document and are aware of any health related regulations as well as visa requirements which may be in operation for nationals of your country. For more information please consult the Government Offices of Sweden website.

  • Do I need insurance?

    As before any travel, you are strongly advised to ensure that you have adequate medical and travel insurance.

  • How can I find accommodation in Malmö?

    Preferential rates have been negotiated for the participants of the ICLEI World Congress 2021 – 2022: The Malmö Summit in a selection of hotels located within a 5 to 20 minute walk from the venue (Clarion Hotel Malmö Live). The registration system includes a section about accommodation where you can book your room. If you wish to independently search and book accommodation for your time in Malmö, you may do so. Registration is now open!

  • How can I reach the congress venue (Clarion Hotel Malmö Live) from the Copenhagen Airport?

    The easiest, fastest, and most sustainable way to get to Malmö from the Copenhagen Airport is by train! We encourage all participants to choose this option. Trains in Sweden are safe, clean, and fast. The train leaves every 20 minutes for the City of Malmö and takes only 20 minutes to arrive at Malmö Central Station. You must buy a ticket for the train before boarding. When you arrive at your gate, just follow the signs to the exit and you will be led to the ticket kiosks. If you prefer, you can also buy tickets in the App provided by the local transportation company Skånetrafiken. From Malmö Central Station, it is a 5 minute walk to Malmö Live.

     

  • What type of electrical current is used in Sweden?

    Sweden uses the Europlug (Type C and F) for electricity, which has two round prongs and outputs 230 volts of power in Sweden.

  • What is May weather like in Malmö?

    May is a spring month with a comfortable temperature in Malmö, Sweden. The average minimum temperature in May is 7.5°C (45.4°F), while the average maximum temperature lies around 17.2°C (63°F). The average number of rainy days in May is 12 and the average sunshine is 8.5 hours.

    We recommend you to bring a waterproof rain jacket and shoes suitable for rain.

Life in Malmö

  • What languages are spoken in Malmö?

    Swedish is the main language but almost everyone speaks English.

    The inhabitants of Malmö come from 180 different countries and speak more than 150 different languages.

     

  • Where can I find information on what to visit in Malmö and surrounding area?

    Find inspiration and tips on what to do in Malmö for example on TripAdvisor. When in Malmö, you can get a tourist map and tourist information at one of the InfoPoints.

  • How can I get around Malmö and surrounding area?

    As a participant you are offered free, accessible and fossil-free public transport within Malmö. Walking, cycling and public transport is the first choice for all who work, live or visit in Malmö. With everything nearby, it’s easy to experience Malmö in a sustainable and healthy way. 

    You will have free access to bikes and more than 500 km of cycle paths to choose from.  Participants will be able to rent a bike through Malmö By Bike for free. There are 100 rental bike stations all over the city that are open all year round and around the clock. 

    The buses are run by the transit company Skånetrafiken.  You can find timetables for bus and trains etc. on their website. You can buy tickets through their App or from a ticket machine at Malmö Central station, Triangeln station or Hyllie station, or at Skånetrafiken’s service center at Malmö Central station.     Public transport in Malmö is powered by renewable energy. Most buses run on biogas and the share of all-electric buses is increasing. That way we contribute to making the city more sustainable and the urban environment is also becoming quieter.  Read more about electric buses and other sustainable initiatives here.

  • What is the official currency of Sweden?

    Swedish krona (SEK) is the official monetary unit of Sweden.

  • What is the time zone in Malmö?

    Sweden conforms to Central European Time, which is one hour ahead of Greenwich Mean Time.

  • Is smoking allowed in public spaces?

    In Sweden, smoking is prohibited in restaurants, public indoor spaces, and several outdoor areas that are publicly accessible. This includes outdoor areas relating to public transport, outdoor serving areas, the entrance to premises and indoor spaces that the public has access to. Smoking can take place in designated places.

  • Can the city be easily accessed by people with reduced mobility?

    Sweden has strong regulations to increase accessibility in shops, restaurants, public spaces, and other facilities. Malmö is also a flat city and most streets are designed to be accessible.

  • How much is VAT in Sweden?

    In Sweden, there are 25% VAT on most services, with the exception of food or domestic travel which each have 12% VAT.
