D4 - One size does not fit all: Integrating culture in sustainability policies
Culture and cultural heritage play a fundamental role in ensuring a more equitable and inclusive future. Culture-led development strategies have the potential to contribute positively to people’s lives and to societies as a whole. They can do so by improving psychological and social wellbeing, strengthening social inclusion and building the resilience of our society. Engagement with culture and cultural heritage also fosters a sense of belonging to a local community, based on common legacies, historical experiences and shared values. Participatory practices, bottom-up solutions and local community engagement can serve as a tool to valorise places to transform them into catalysts for regeneration of urban and regional areas as laboratories of creativity. Their beauty generates attractivity and stimulates new job opportunities.
